Balancing study and life - help at hand

Whether you need help polishing up that last major assignment, you want to get immunised and avoid the flu, or you just need someone to talk to, Monash offers a range of services to help you.

If you need help with assignments or exams, the Library is here for you. You can check out Research and Learning Online for strategies and tutorials you can do at a time that suits you. Those who need expert advice on things like citing and referencing, academic writing and other learning skills can come to one of our drop-in sessions.

If you have end-of-semester exams, we are running exam preparation workshops at the Caulfield, Clayton and Peninsula campuses. These workshops will teach you strategies for getting the most out of your revision and performing in exams, and well as tips on managing stress during the exam period. You can see what’s on and register through the Library class booking system.

Of course, we provide conducive spaces to study. Some libraries will have extended opening hours during SWOT Vac and the exam period; check our opening hours page for details. If you have a study group and you need a place to meet, you can book one of our discussion rooms.



Life happens


Focusing on study does not mean you neglect your health and well-being. The good news is Monash offers a range of services on campus. If you want get the flu vaccine and avoid getting sick when you need to study, or if you’re just due for a checkup, take a look at the health services at uni. They’re conveniently located on campus, and some of their services are discounted or free for Monash students. As well as a general medical practice and dental services, you can see a dietitian for help managing conditions like food allergies or diabetes, or just for general advice on healthy eating on a budget. Great if you’re getting tired of frozen food and two-minute noodles!

The health service also offers counselling, mental health and mindfulness programs if you’re feeling a bit stressed out. Counselling appointments are free and confidential for Monash students, and there are also options for online or after-hours support if it’s hard for you to make it to campus. There are also chaplains on each campus who can provide support and pastoral counselling on personal or spiritual matters.

If you have been exposed to inappropriate or threatening behaviour, you can contact the Safer Community Unit or Campus Security. Security will be happy to escort you across campus if you feel unsafe walking alone.

Finally, if you’re finding money is a bit tight, check the financial assistance page. The website has a lot of advice and links to information that can help you plan a budget, get access to concessions and discounts, or keep debt under control. You can also see an adviser in person, and may even be eligible for a loan from the university if your financial situation is affecting your ability to study.

Take advantage of what's available to you to keep on top of your end-of-semester assessments, as well as your health and well-being.
